France's Antoine Griezmann knows not to expect any favourable treatment when confronted by close friend Diego Godin in quarter-final clash today. Teammates at Atletico Madrid, Griezmann and Godin have formed such a bond over the past four years that the rugged defender is the Godfather of Griezmann's daughter, Mia. "Diego [Godin] is a great friend. I'm with him every day in Madrid. It [Uruguay] is a nationality that I love, people that I love. It will be a very emotional match for me," Griezmann said.
At Atletico, while Griezmann is the star striker, Godin, is the embodiment of the dogged, determined and defensively brilliant side Diego Simeone has created. "They will waste time, they'll fall, surround the referee. It's their game, it's the same at Atletico. They will want us to fall into their trap," said Griezmann, who has been overshadowed by his blistering strike partner Kylian Mbbape, but knows Godin and another Atletico teammate, Jose Maria Gimenez, won't give Mbappe the space that Argentina did. "Do not expect him to do the same as in the quarters. The Uruguayans will have watched him, they will change the way to defend him. It's up to us to put him in good positions."
