In what was dubbed the ‘Group of Death,’ St Mary’s ICSE (Mazgaon) rose to the occasion, riding on a brace from Rohaan Chainani to seal a 3-0 win over St Dominic Savio (Andheri) and secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) boys U-16 Division-I football tournament at the Wings Sports Centre, Bandra, on Monday.

The group, featuring teams like Bombay Scottish (Mahim), Holy Family (Andheri), and St Dominic Savio, was wide open, heading into the final round. Bombay Scottish were on four points, St Mary’s on three, St Dominic Savio trailing with one and Holy Family on zero. Only the top two teams progress.

St Mary’s knew they had no room for error. Their urgency translated into early momentum, with Rohaan breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute for 1-0. After the break, Yohaan Kapadia struck, threading a low shot into the bottom right corner. Rohaan then delivered the third goal, after darting past a host of defenders before slotting home to seal their quarter-final berth, with a total of six points.
