'Squash Mile' fund raiser a big hit

Around 170 squash enthusiasts graced the 'Squash a Mile' fund raiser at Bombay Gymkhana yesterday.

The event witnessed enthusiasts running or walking 165 lengths of the squash court which is equivalent to a mile. Caran Arora, the 17-year-old brainchild behind the event, told MiD DAY that Sunday's attendance could raise Rs 1.2 lakh for Concern India Foundation which helps raise funds towards education, health and community development. India player Ritwik Bhattacharya said: "Though people may walk a mile daily, doing it on a squash court is very difficult."u00a0 Participants pledged support towards women empowerment. "The male and female ratio in Maharashtra and Gujarat is so low because of the mindset," said Bhattacharya.u00a0

He also raised concerns on areas that needed attention like sewage and cleanliness in the city. The event was supported byu00a0 Squash Racquets Association of Maharashtra.
