The state government, on Sunday, had ordered a complete lockdown between 8pm on Friday and 7am on Monday for the entire month of April, besides other stringent measures like enforcing section 144, in view of the rising Covid-19 cases in the city.
This was the second year in succession when the country’s premier racing season came to an abrupt halt. Last year, five weeks of Mumbai racing had to be abandoned after PM Narendra Modi announced countrywide lockdown.
