Children's Academy, Kandivali's striker Ankit Gala was easily the best player on display in yesterday's Mumbai Schools Sports Association's boys U-16 inter-school volleyball final against Ashok Nagar's Children's Academy.
Gala's powerful smashes helped his school clinch the U-16 title with a 25-22, 25-18 win. Sadly however the lad is not too eager to carry on with the sport.u00a0
Gala, who won the best striker award two days ago in the Madhavrao Bhagwat High School volleyball tournament, is unsure about his future with the game after he failed to make it to the Maharashtra Under-17 squad. "I couldn't secure a place in the Maharshtra team and I think it was rightly so. They already have a lot of really good players," he said
Dominating the proceedings, the school from Ashok Nagar also won gold medals in the U-14 and U-12 girls categories. Coach Nilesh Thakkar attributed the success to hard work put in by his kids as well as the school's liberal attitude towards the game. "Kids representing the school team are given special time offu00a0 ufffd during their drawing and craft classes to practice ufffd which has resulted in our school dominating the sport," Thakkar said.
