Sure, playing the sport initially seemed like a fun activity. But in three to four months' time, Kunwar is now determined enough and harbours ambitions to excel in the sport and compete with the best at the highest level.
However, Kunwar is extremely agile as we saw in the Nike MSSA inter-school table tennis tournament in the boys U-16 category yesterday.
"Because I am slightly on the heavier side, I can't play other sports. But when I held the bat for the first time during the summer camp, I realised I had some potential," said Kunwar, who cruised through the first three rounds before crashing out in Round Four at the University Sports Pavilion, Marine Lines.
But then, he has only started and the competition here was "very superior."
Kunwar said: "There are far better players in this tournament.u00a0 I still need to train a lot. But I am sure with proper guidance and hard work I can be right up there."
St Joseph's coach Guru Parte said, "With just three to four months of training he has already given the best players a tough fight. He is a devoted player and if he continues this way he could well be a champion in the coming years."
