India's top male shuttler Parupalli Kashyap beat Chinese Taipei's Jen Hao Hsu 21-17, 21-18 in the All England Badminton Championship here yesterday

u00a0Kashyap, who jumped two places yesterday to reach the World No 9 rank, will now face seventh seed Kenichi Tago of Japan in the pre-quarter-finals.

India’s other hope in the men’s singles event, Sourabh Verma, also made it to the round of 16 after winning his tie against Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia 10-21, 21-14, 24-22. He will now face Vietnamese eighth seed Tien Minh Nguyen.

Meanwhile, Ajay Jayaram lost 21-15, 18-21, 10-21 to Zhengming Wang.u00a0

Saina slips to 3rd in world rankings
Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal slipped a place to be ranked third in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released yesterday. Saina was overtaken by World Champion Yihan Wang in the women’s singles rankings. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu retained her 16th position.
