Allen finished with 18 points for the Celtics who won their eighth-straight game on the road and now have a league best 12 wins and one loss on the road this season.
Paul Pierce scored 19 points as six Boston players reached double figures in scoring. Kevin Garnett did his part with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo led the Grizzlies and finished with 23 and 21 points respectively.
Zach Randolph had 20 points for Memphis, which had won four of five coming into the game.
Rasheed Wallace helped seal the victory with a steal late in the game. Wallace finished with 15 points.
Memphis scored nine of the final 11 points of the opening quarter to take a 31-28 lead.
The lead changed hands seven times in the third, including at the 3:30 mark when Wallace sank a pair of free throws to give the Celtics a 79-77 lead.
