Italy's Fabiano Caruana shocked world champion Viswanathan Anand in what was a rare defeat with white pieces for the Indian in the opening round of the Tal Memorial chess tournament.
Meanwhile, World No 1 Magnus Carlsen started on a winning note defeating arch-rival Vladimir Kramnik of Russia. The win helped the Norwegian take an early lead in the 10-player round-robin tournament.
