The Commonwealth Games champion cleared two metres, 34 centimetres with Ukraine's title-holder Bohdan Bondarenko and home favourite Zhang Guowei sharing the silver after posting best jumps of 2.33m.
Qatar's world indoor champion Mutaz Barshim finished outside the medals.
