India thrice surrendered the lead against New Zealand to go down 3-7 in their last league encounter of the Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament wednesday.
The defeat crushed India's hopes of making the final. They finished their league engagements with seven points from six matches.

Andrew Hayward and Hilton Blair scored two goals each while Nicholas Wilson, Matt L'Huillier and Shay Neal slotted the other three for New Zealand. Sunil Sowmarpet, Gurwinder Singh Chandi and Gurwinder Chandi scored were on target for India.
Meanwhile, World champions Australia booked their place in the final after they held on to defeat Great Britain 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash.
Australia will most likely meet either Great Britain or Pakistan in the final. Both have nine points.
