Bajrang Kumar added another medal to India's campaign at the FILA World Wrestling Championships yesterday when he bagged a bronze in the 60kg freestyle category.
Bajrang beat Mongolia’s Nyam-Ochir Enkhsaikhan yesterday to clinch third spot with an overwhelming 9-2 scoreline.
Amit Kumar had bagged a silver medal a day earlier in the 55 Kg category. This is the first time India have won two medals in the men’s competition at the World Championships.
Earlier in the day, Bajrang had lost 0-7 to Vladimir Dubov of Bulgaria in the opening rounds of the competition. However, luck smiled on the Indian as he he was back in contention when Dubov reached the final. Bajrang got a shot at the repechage where he did exceedingly well.
He first beat Shogo Maeda of Japan and followed it out with a win over Romania’s Ivan Guidea. Finally, he beat Enkhsaikhan in the bronze-medal round.
Bajrang’s performance lit up an otherwise dull day for India after Pawan Kumar (84kg) and Hitender (120kg) made early exits from the competition. u00a0
