A calendar (published by the Indian cricket board) in Bishan Singh Bedi's bedroom in New Delhi has kept the Sardar of Spin's river of memories flowing. It features among other stalwarts, M L Jaisimha, Hanumant Singh and Dilip Sardesai -- all mates of his, all seated in God's own pavilion.
The former left-arm spinner and India captain said he would speak on Sardesai, the man and cricketer as well as the decline of spin in the land of tweak. And those who know how expressive Bedi can get are not ruling out some hard talk on the current state of affairs in Indian cricket administration.
"I feel enamoured to talk about Sardesai. I have so many memories of him, Chotu (Hanumant) and Jaisimha," Bedi told MiD DAY.
Sardesai who starred in India's 1970-71 triumph over the West Indies in the Caribbean was called Indian cricket's renaissance man. He plundered 642 runs in that Test series. Bedi will particularly remember his 62-run partnership for the tenth wicket with Sardesai which helped save the Barbados Test.
