Carmel of St Joseph (Malad) beat Guru Nanak High School (Koliwada) 2-0 in the final of the U-14 Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) Fr Donnelly Challenge Cup at the MHA-Mahindra Stadium yesterday to claim the inter-school girls hockey title that they had missed out on last year.
Celina Vaz opened the scoring for the Malad school in the sixth minute. Two minutes later, Lynette Lobo doubled their advantage. The Koliwada outfit desperately tried to make inroads, but was unable to match up to the Malad team.

Lynette, who finished with an impressive tally of 18 goals in the tournament, dedicated this win to her school coach Shelton Carvalho, who had a left knee operation last month.
“On November 25, Shelton sir was operated upon and doctors advised him to take complete rest. “However, he made it a point to not let that affect our training. Also, he has traveled all the way here to guide us in the final. He deserves all credit for this win,” added Lynette.
Coach Carvalho wasn’t surprised that Lynette had stolen the show once again.u00a0“She’s been consistent throughout the tournament. I am not at all surprised that she has won us this match and with it, the tournament,” Carvalho said.
