The top seed, who was handed a first-round bye, had little trouble beating her Latvian opponent as she began her preparations for the US Open with a 7-5, 6-1 success.
Tenth seed Elina Svitolina will join her in the quarter-finals as the Ukrainian needed just over an hour to despatch Evgeniya Rodina 6-3, 6-1.
Elena Vesnina is also in the last eight and will meet Svitolina in second-round after Anett Kontaveit retired with the score 6-4 1-0 in the Russian’s favour.
