Mumbai-based Vinod Punamiya yesterday shocked the nation by claiming that he became the first Indian to cover an unbelievable distance of 1485km between India Gate, Delhi to Gateway of India, Mumbai in just 31 hours and eight minutes.
The 53-year-old began the journey from Delhi on Saturday 7am and reached Mumbai yesterday at 2:08 pm.
"I had a target of reaching Jaipur (distance of 272 km) by 11am but got delayed by two hours due to traffic in Delhi.
"But then, the road between Jaipur and Udaipur (399km) was smooth and traffic-free, helping me make-up for lost time. I reached Udaipur atu00a0 9:30pm, Ahmedabad at 1:40am, Surat by 7am and finally was able to reach Gateway by 2:08 pm."
Punamiya aimed to cover the distance within 30 hours, but missed out by an hour and eight minutes due to "heavy traffic in Delhi and Mumbai.
"Also, when I was just 100 kms away I started getting cramps in my leg. But, I applied some pain relief and continued on my journey," he added.
