MSSA wanted to introduce a new rule wherein an U-14 player would not be allowed to play in the U-16 tournament. It was only after Mumbai Cricket Association's intervention that MSSA reversed its decision.
Explaining the cause of delay, MSSA president Fr Jude Rodrigues said, "We wanted to get a new rule in cricket this year like other sports where a player is can play in only one age group. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) did not agree to this proposed rule and also did not allocate grounds. Finally, we have decided to start our tournament with no change in rules."
Defending champions Al-Barkaat MMI (Kurla) coach Nafees Khan said: " Normally, the Harris Shield starts in the first week of November. MSSA can wind up the tournament in a month's time, but for that to happen, they need to get grounds. The late start to the Harris Shield will also result in a delay to the U-14 Giles Shield".
