St Dominic Savio clinched the Tata Shield, the symbol of supremacy in the boys segment of inter-school athletics, thanks to their Fab Four Anthony Coutinho, Avinash Kapur, Amish Khamkar and Derrick D'Souza.

The Andheri outfit claimed the Shield after 20 years in the MSSA-Nike 116th annual Inter-School Athletic Championship yesterday.





Coutinho, the tallest member of the quartet, spoke on behalf of his teammates: "We are delighted our hard work has paid off. We feel very proud to have set a new meet record and dedicate this victory to our coach Dayanand Shetty, assistant coach Bal Krishna Kadam and our parents, who helped us to achieve this honour today."

The quartet clocked the fastest time in the 4x400m relay to set a new meet record of 3 minutes, 51 seconds u00e2u0080u0094 an improvement of two seconds from the earlier mark.

Dominic Savio garnered 67 points to win the prestigious Shield. That apart, they bagged the Hosey A Mistry Memorial Trophy for the highest aggregate in the senior division.





Avinash claimed the AA Jasdanvala Cup and the Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Trophy for winning the 1500m and 3000m respectively.

In the girls section, St Agnes (Byculla) won the Jehangir Pestonji Padrivala Trophy for achieving highest points (72) over all divisions for girls. The Agnes girls also anchored a new meet record in the 4x100m relay of 53.5 seconds. The old mark was 54.6 seconds.

Toppers:
St Lawrence High School (Kandivali) with a total of 145 points walked away with the Alex Vaz Trophy for earning highest points in all divisions for Co-Education schools.

Best athlete (boys): Anil Kumar Sahoo (St Lawrence)
Best athlete (girls): Karen Mistry (DY Patil, Worli)
Little champion: Shrey Devrukhkar (Holy Family, Andheri)
