Former football administrator Shabbir Ahmed passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest in Mumbai yesterday. Shabbirbhai, as he was known in the football fraternity, recently recovered from a stroke.

Ahmed, a bachelor, was Assistant Secretary of Mohammed Sporting Football Club in Kolkata in the 1975-76 season. After moving to Mumbai, Ahmed was actively involved with the newly formed Bengal Mumbai Football Club (BMFC) which was founded in 1998.
He served the club in various positions, like advisor, manager and mentor, till the club shut in 2011. Shabbirbhai's last rites will be conducted in Kolkata.
