Ferrer, who was trailing in his quarter-final match at the ATP and WTA Masters event, directed a forehand lob toward the infant after losing his serve midway through the second, Associated Press reported. The ball didn't come close to the youngster, but the crying stopped.
Meanwhile, Fish's victoryu00a0 insures he will climb to at least 11th when the rankings are next released, while Andy Roddick will fall from eighth to 14th after losing his tournament-opener last week making him the US No 1.
Fish next faces second-seeded Novak Djokovic, who cruised through his quarter-final match against Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-2.
