Otters Club’s Ishaan Mehra and Khar Gymkhana’s Neel Roy and Palak Dhami from Matunga Gymkhana stole the opening day’s honours when 13 new records – including three in relays - were set in the Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatic Association (GMAAA) championships at Tata the swimming pool on Saturday.

Ishaan rewrote his own records in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle events in the Boys-I category. He clocked 00:59.09 seconds in the 100m event, thus bettering his last year’s timing of 01:01.09 secs. In the 200m freestyle, Ishaan’s timing of 02:00.21 eclipsed his timing of 02:02.82 secs. Likewise, Khar Gymkhana Neel, too created two new marks in the 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke in the boys –II section. In the girls section, it was Matunga Gymkhana’s Palak Dhami, who, too, had a brace of record-breaking golds, by winning the 50m freestyle and backstroke events in the girls -IV category.
