Gide, Sharan exit early from National Grasscourt Tennis

Sixth seed Rohan Gide of Services was shown the door by Maharashtra's Ronak Manuja 6-2,6-2 at the Vishwarupa Tubes National Grass Court Tennis Championship 2009 on the lawns of Calcutta South Club on Tuesday.

Sixth seed Rohan Gide of Services was shown the door by Maharashtra's Ronak Manuja 6-2,6-2 at the Vishwarupa Tubes National Grass Court Tennis Championship 2009 on the lawns of Calcutta South Club on Tuesday.



The day's other upset was caused by Vivek Shokeen who accounted for eighth seed Divij Sharan 6-4, 6-3.



In the first set, Gide managed to retain his serve in the first game and lost it thrice after that. However he broke Manuja in the sixth and kept his cool to pocket the set.



In the second set, Gide was broken in the first and seventh games.


The Shokeen-Sharan match saw the rivals going with the serve till the ninth game of the first set.


In the tenth, Shokeen broke Sharan to take the set 6-4. In the second set, the solitary break came in the fourth game. Shokeen did not make any mistakes and retained all his serves to proceed to the pre quarter finals.


In the only Women's Singles match fifth seed local girl Treta Bhattacharyya defeated the Maharashtra's Sagarika Phadke 6-4,6-2.
