Aditya Jadhav's all-round effort put Balmohan Vidyamandir (Dadar) in command against Cathedral and John Connon School (Fort) on Day One of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-organised Giles Shield Elite Division third-round tie at Hindu Gymkhana yesterday.


First, the left-arm spinner bowled an incredible spell of 21.5 overs to bag figures of 7-50 and then scored an unbeaten 55 to help his team to 114-2 in 35 overs when stumps were drawn.

Electing to field, Balmohan unleashed Aditya, whose guile and variation troubled the opposition batsmen. The spinner dismissed Arnav Shah (21) leg before wicket and then had Aayaan Jain (3) caught by Tejas Shede. Next, he scalped Amogh Gwalani (72) and Sahil Shroff (14).

Later, Aditya bowled Nishant Ramesh (20). His sixth wicket came in the form of Dev Alimchandani, who was stumped by wicketkeeper Vedant Zende. Zahan Lamba (2) became Aditya's seventh victim.

Medium pacer Shagun Jadhav, who finished with figures of 3-20, ably supported Aditya. The Fort school were bowled out for 177 in 57.5 overs Balmohan reached 114-2 in 35 overs when stumps were drawn. Aditya carried the momentum with the bat, smashing seven fours during his 110-ball innings.

Raj, Ayush shine
Riding on half centuries by Raj Kaila (53) and Ayush Karaval (68), Vidya Mandir (Dahisar) managed 221 in 84.1 overs against Gundecha Education Academy (Kandivli) at Parsee Gymkhana.

The duo batted confidently as they notched up a 107-run partnership for the fifth wicket. For the Kandivli outfit, left-arm spinner Zenith Sachdev (3-39) was the pick of the bowlers. Pacers Rudra Bhatt and Suryansh Shedge bagged two wickets apiece.

In reply, Gundecha were 32-1 in four overs.

Ton-up Jeevan sizzles
Centurion Jeevan Karlekar (128*) powered Al-Barkaat MMI English School (Kurla) to 344-6 in 83 overs against Lilavati Podar (Santacruz) at Matunga Gymkhana.

Jeevan's unbeaten 225-ball innings on Day One included 18 boundaries. He was ably partnered by Saumil Malandkar (63) and Ankit Yadav (59). The Santacruz bowler Rohit Joshi finished the day with figures of 3-79.

Owais scores ton for Rizvi
Owais Khan's (139) century helped Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) post a score of 272-8 decl vs Green Bombay High School (Kurla) at New Hind SC, Matunga.

Owais' 116-ball innings included 24 hits to the fence and three sixes. Moin Khan (32) and Mayank Piyotiya (31) chipped in. Abhishek Jaiswar bagged figures of 4-70. In reply, the Kurla school were 72-8 in at stumps. Arun Gupta (3-32) was the pick of the bowlers for Rizvi
