Falcon, easily available at 11-2 in the bookmakers' ring, unleashed a powerful run when it mattered most to win the Grade 2 SA Poonawalla Multi-million, the prime attraction of yesterday's races.
Suraj Narredu rode the winner for his uncle, trainer Malesh Narredu, whose wards finished one-two in the prestigious race as Bandolier, ridden by DK Ashish, another nephew of the trainer, finished runner-up. Favourite Dynamo (S Zervan up), who attempted to make it a start-to-finish affair over the mile trip, lost steam close home to finish third.
Malesh Narredu thus collected a whopping Rs 16 lakh (Rs 12 lakh for Falcon and Rs 4 lakh for Bandolier) for Jaydev Mody, who owns both the horses. The main reason Falcon went off at such lucrative odds was that Narredu put him into yesterday’s contest without any preparatory race.

"I have always believed this horse is special. I didn’t want to take too much risk with him on this monsoon track with a short homestretch, so I held him
back.u00a0He is meant for Mahalaxmi, and I want to preserve him for that. You will see him only once more, in the Nanoli Pune Derby, and then he will be taken to Mumbai,” Narredu told MiD DAY.
