Aryan Goveas continued his fine showing in the Arvind Malkan Memorial AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament, entering the finals of the boy's U-12 and U-14 categories with straight set wins at the Practennis courts in Kandivli yesterday.
In the U-12 semis, top seed Aryan beat Neil Thanawala 6-1, 6-0 before returning an hour later to take on Ibrahim Lukman in the U-14 last four match. The 11-year-old got the better of his senior opponent 6-3, 6-4 to set up a mouth-watering final against top seed Nikhil Kannan, who accounted for third seed Kushal Mulay 6-0, 6-4.
In the U-12 final, Aryan will clash with third seed Arbaz Maniyar, who got past Pune's Brent Dixon 7-6 (3), 6-4.
Among the girls, Yuden Shyodi, the top seed in the U-12 and U-14 age groups also booked her place in both finals but not before being extended by Shreya Pai. Yuden dropped the first set before winning a close second set and shutting out the third for a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory.
In the U-12 semi-final Yuden beat Heeta Kotak 6-3, 6-2 to set up a final clash with sixth seed Aaboli Goghari.
