New Delhi: India's Chef de Mission for Rio OLympics Rakesh Gupta on Wednesday said the Olympics organising committee here has confirmed Indian food would be provided to the athletes during the quadrennial extravaganza.

He said the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will spare no effort ensure that the athletes get proper Indian food.

"The IOA is very much concerned with the kind of food to be available for the athletes in Rio. For this, we have already written to the organising committee so that our athletes' performance are not affected," he told reporters here.

"The organising committee has already confirmed that Indian food will be available in the Games Village," he added.

More than 100 athletes from India are expected to take part in the upcoming Summer Games in Rio, which will be the maiden Olympics for South America. The Games will be held from August 5 to 21.

The 2012 London Games courted controversy with most of the Indian contingent complaining the lack of proper vegetarian food.

However, Gupta said the IOA will take no chances this time around and has already communicated with the organising committee in this regard.
