Amsterdam: Jimmy Vicaut has emerged as the great European pretender to the 100m title, ready to take on the strong legion of Jamaican and US sprinters.

But the 24-year-old Parisian insists that his participation in the blue riband event at the European Championships was merely a stepping stone to Rio games.
"The cherry on the cake would be an Olympic medal, not to be European champion," Vicaut said.
The Frenchman has touched down in Amsterdam in the role of heavy odds-on favourite and it is difficult to see who can challenge him. Last month he timed 9.86 seconds over 100m in Montreuil, equalising his joint European record and sending out a message of intent to his sprint rivals.
