American baseball player Justin Verlander, 35, has credited his supermodel wife Kate Upton, 26, for saving his life when he was battling depression after a major slump due to a career-threatening shoulder injury in 2014.

Exactly three years later, he was a part of Houston Astros side that beat Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series Championship. In a recent Bleacher Report interview, when Verlander was asked about his relationship with Upton, and how she helped to guide him through his public and private struggles as an athlete, he replied: "Who knows, if I'm even here if it wasn't for her? She was instrumental in me not… like, jumping off a bridge. I was depressed and upset at the world and trying to hide my own s**t."
Reportedly, critics blamed Upton for his performance decline then and was even booed by Detroit Tigers fans. "I don't like to talk to people about being hurt. As athletes, you're not supposed to…but [Kate] was someone I could talk to, basically a therapist," added Verlander.
