Sind Sports Club registered their first win in the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League by beating Victory Cricket Club by virtue of the first innings lead at Cross Maidan yesterday.

Riding on openers Kushal Shah's 92 and Harsh Tank's 69, Sind declared their first innings at 298-8. Amit Patil was the pick of the Victory bowlers, claiming four wickets for 79 runs in 17 overs. In reply, Victory batsmen struggled to get going.


They failed to stitch partnerships which resulted in their downfall. They were eventually bowled out for a mere 127 in 44 overs.


Mansingh Nigade top-scored with 38 runs. Sind SC skipper Punit Tripathi ran through the opposition batting line up and finished with 6-23 in nine overs. "I am really happy with the way I performed with the ball," said the 21-year-old.

Tripathi delighted
Tripathi, a third year commerce student of Rizvi college is also delighted to be selected for the U-23 Shalini Bhalekar Selection tournament. "I aim to do well in the tournament and get into the state team. My ultimate goal is to play for the country," he said. Following on, Victory ended the day on 90-2.

Fifer for Thakur
Meanwhile, in other matches, paceman Shardul Thakur helped Payyade Sports Club beat Shivaji Park Gymkhana on the basis of first innings lead. Thakur picked up 5-64 which helped Payyade restrict SPG to 137.

In reply, Payyade declared their first innings on 240-7 with half centuries from Praful Waghela (65), Sufiyan Shaikh (53) and Hiken Shah (50). Parkophene Cricketers beat Sunrise Sports Club on the basis of the first innings lead at Azad Maidan.
