Asian Games gold medallist Vikas Krishan (69kg) advanced to the round of 32 with an emphatic victory but it was curtains for Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Paramjeet Samota (+91kg) who crashed out with an opening round loss.

Krishan, making his Welterweight (69kg) debut at the World Championships, was up against Asadullo Boimurodov of Kyrgyzstan in his opening fight.u00a0 The 19-year-old displayed great maturity against his more experienced opponent. He started aggressively, taking the game away from the Kyrgyz boxer in the very first round with a commanding five-point lead. The youth world champion was relentless as he kept increasing the margin and went on to beat Boimurodov comprehensively by a 16:8 scoreline.u00a0
In the Heavyweight section, Samota took on Vitalijus Subacius of Lithuania. The Indian boxer was slow off the blocks and the Lithuania boxer took advantage, gaining a two point lead after the opening round.u00a0 Samota came back strongly in the second to bring the difference down to au00a0 point at 7:8.u00a0 In the final round though, the India lost crucial points and with it the bout losing 12:14.
