However it will be after his RadioShack outfit are awarded the prize for topping the teams' classification, and not for the yellow jersey which Spaniard Alberto Contador is currently wearing.
Since then the 38-year-old has been racing to make sure RadioShack, the team he joined last year after being beaten to third on the race by former Astana teammate Contador, finish first in the teams competition.
Ahead of today's penultimate stage time trial held over 52km from Bordeaux to Pauillac, which is expected to confirm Contador as the 2010 Tour de France champion, RadioShack lead Caisse d'Epargne by 8min 30sec.
In the individual classification Armstrong is way off the pace in 23rd at 37min 58sec behind Contador.
The race finishes in Paris on Sunday with the 102.5km 20th stage from Longjumeau to Paris.
