Aayush Zimare's all-round effort went in vain as his team IES VN Sule (Dadar) lost to Anjuman Islam High School (CST) by 161 runs in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) U-14 Giles Shield cricket match held at Cross Maidan yesterday.

The left-arm spinner had a match haul of 12 wickets and scored a valiant 65 in the first innings in his team's defeat With this win, Anjuman booked a place in the semi-finals.


Resuming on their overnight score of 58-2, Anjuman were bowled out for 136 courtesy a fiery spell from Zimare. The spinner ran through Anjuman's batting order to set VN Sule a victory target of 296. Having trailed in the first innings, IES had to chase down the target in two sessions for an outright win.

The Dadar school started off well with a brisk 45-run stand from the opening pair. However, after the fall of opener Vedprakash Jaiswal, who was adjudged leg before wicket to Ajit Gaud for 32 runs, VN Sule suffered a batting collapse.

Anjuman bowlers upped the pressure and VN Sule surrendered without any fight. Leg-break bowler Sumit Dave was the star for Anjuman with four for 12 in the second innings.

Anjuman Islam (CST) 283 & 136 (P Mishra 28; A Zimare 8-36) beat IES VN Sule (Dadar) 124 & 134 (V Jaiswal 32; S Dave 4-12) by 161 runs.

Matunga Premier School 140 & 104-2 (A Singh 43, G Bhati 51*) beat Parle Tilak School (Vile Parle) 72 & 168 (A More 57, G Chavan 52) by 8 wickets.
