Marion Bartoli's bid for the Malaysian Open title came to an end at the quarter-final stage after the second seed was knocked out in straight sets by Lucie Safarova in Kuala Lumpur. The Czech set up a semi-final meeting with Jarmilla Groth after coming through 6-1 6-4.
Safarova broke her French opponent early in the first set and never relinquished the advantage before two breaks in the second gave her the upper hand. Although Bartoli battled back with one of her own, the fifth seed held her nerve to close out the win.
