MNCs arranging for guest houses and giving smart cards to accommodate workers during event

Several BPOs and MNCs situated in the satellite towns of Gurgaon and Noida are making efforts to make life easy for their employees during the Games. Fearing major traffic chaos during this time, some companies have rented guest houses for their employees who stay far from office, while others have given them Metro smart cards.

Corporates have circulated e-mails telling the staff that those living in far off places must get ready three hours in advance for the pick up. It is more comfortable for those staying near Metro stations as they are being provided with smart cards.

u00a0"The new plan is only for the Commonwealth Games as traffic conditions in the city are expected to worsen during this period," said Savita Khan, who works with Intelnet Global Services in Gurgaon. Similar initiatives have been taken by other companies.

"For the day shift, which is from 9 am to 5 pm, the company is giving Metro smart cards and pick up and drop service from the nearest Metro station and for the night shift, from 7 pm to 5 am, we need to get ready at 4 pm for the pick up," said an IBM employee in Gurgaon.

Some MNCs have gone a step further. Computer major Dell has planned to shift some of their units out of NCR during the Games. "Our company has planned to shift us to Mohali for the critical process for 15 days and has rented a guest house near the office for the staff," said a Dell employee, whose process is being shifted to Mohali, near Chandigarh. Similar is the situation for offices and companies operating in Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.

"To avoid any congestion and delay, our employers have decided to arrange early pick ups. People living in Laxmi Nagar now needs to get ready an hour in advance. We cannot afford to keep waiting for our employee stuck in traffic," said a senior official of TCS e-serve.

Travel Mess

With around 1,600 Blueline and Whiteline buses slated to be off roads from Sunday to October 17, travelling to and from central and south Delhi is going to be a hassle.u00a0 The government had sent a notification to bus operators, asking them to take all Blueline and Whiteline buses off NDMC areas during this period. Though they will be replaced with a new fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, it is not known how much they will be of help. Around 1,567 buses running on 142 routes will be stopped, affecting some of the most busy routes, including Mehrauli-Anand Vihar, Greater Kailash-New Delhi railway station, Badarpur Border-Minto Road, Kapashera Border-Mori Gate and Saket-Old Delhi Station.
