Mumbai cricket's dark phase will end: Vengsarkar

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) vice president Dilip Vengsarkar admits being disappointed by Mumbai's poor showing in the Ranji quarter-final against Rajasthan. But he believes the defending champions have what it takes to bounce back next season.

"Mumbai going out in the Ranji quarter-finals was a big upset. It was a very disappointing performance from the defending champions. But never mind, winning and losing is a part of the game. We can't expect the same team to win every year," Vengsarkar told MiD DAY. The former India and Mumbai captain was chief guest at the Purshottam Shield prize distribution function at PJ Hindu Gym yesterday.

"Mumbai always had a very good set of players under whom I have played and won matches. I think with so many tournaments happening, it can be a good investment for Indian cricket as Mumbai can produce good international players. As for the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai have the potential to bounce back next season," Vengsarkar signed off.
