Navratilova (57) popped the question at the Arthur Ashe Stadium's Tennis Channel Suite during the break between the two men's singles semi-finals.
"I was very nervous, but it came off, and she said yes, and I was flying high," Navratilova told www.wta.com.
"It was like an out of body experience because you see people propose at sporting events before. You watch it in movies and in real life, and here it was happening to me.
It was pretty cool," added Navratilova, who won 18 Grand Slam singles titles and 167 tour crowns in total. Navratilova later said the couple preferred to marry in Florida, where they live.
