The second seeds beat the fifth seeded pair of Su-Wei Hsieh and Kevin Ullyet 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 at the Flushing Meadows. However, top seed Mahesh Bhupathi and Liezel Huber lost to the unseeded pair of Travis Parrott and Carly Gullickson 6-3, 6-4.
But thereu00a0 was joy earlieru00a0u00a0 in the day for Bhupathi as he and partner Mark Knowles outwitted Ivan Ljubicic and Michael Llodra 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 in the men's doubles quarters.
Before Bhupathi and Knowles, fourth seeds Paes and partner Lukas Dlouhy also made the semis beating seventh seeded Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
