With alleged links in the Indian Premier League's (IPL) bidding process and revelations of his stakes in an IPL franchisee, former Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) president Sharad Pawar might be going through a turbulent phase. However, Pawar has support from an unexpected quarter. The outgoing International Cricket Council (ICC) president, David Morgan, has no issues in handing over the charge to his successor.
Speaking exclusively to MiD DAY from London yesterday, Morgan said: "Sharad Pawar is the vice president of the game's highest governing body and is due to hold the president's post from July 1.
I see no reason why he can't hold this post."
Asked if the ICC's image could be in danger of being tarnished because of a powerful administrator like Pawar being in the middle of controversies, Morgan said: "Sharad Pawar is an honourable man and he would have let me know if he had done anything wrong.
"I have no first-hand information about his wrong doings, and to me, he is the best man to occupy the chair and I am sure he will be at the ICC's top chair on July 1."
