Tehmina Shroff, mother of ace-jockey-turned-horse-trainer Pesi Shroff, breathed her last early Friday morning at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She was 83.
Hailing from a family of horse lovers, Tehmi, as she was fondly called, was herself an accomplished rider, and won many a Gymkhana race as a young woman.

Later, picking up the family’s other obsession, charitable social service, she took over the reins of Jai Vakeel School for differently-abled children which was founded by her parents.
Ever-smiling, energetic and an ardent lover of horses, Tehmi led an active life until her last days, managing to regularly visit the races despite being involved with the day-to-day management of the school which, thanks to her efforts, is one of the city’s most respected institutions, transforming the lives of thousands of differently-abled children over nearly seven decades.
