Chembur Gymkhana Centre's 13-year-old Gilchrist Prabhakar has started to feel the pressures of sharing Aussie great Adam Gilchrist's name.

Pressure of being Gilchrist

The Mulund lad, who was in action during the final match of Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) under-14 selection trials against Khar Gymkhana at Oval Maidan yesterday, idolises the former Australian wicketkeeper. “My teammates expect me to go out there and play a mature innings like ‘Gilly’ every time I enter the ground. You do feel the pressure when people expect you to perform and bat like him,” said the Class IX student of the Vidya Prasarak Mandal High School.

Gilchrist’s father, Allwyn, explained the reasons behind the choice of name: “There were two reasons for naming him Gilchrist. I am a huge fan of Gilchrist and also the name means ‘Christ’s servant’.” Gilchrist played a crucial innings for Chembur Gym yesterday. After losing their openers Vishal Ranglani and Shubham Das for 2-2, Gilchrist supported Aman Rawat (41 runs) with 27 runs from 33 balls.

Gilchrist also took a brilliant catch off Rugved Kulkarni at the long-on boundary to send back Khar Gym captain Tejas Shetty (61-ball 22 runs). Chembur Centre ended the day on 96-4 in 36.1 overs. Earlier, Khar Gymkhana were bowled out for 123 in 56.2 overs.u00a0
