The 14-day sporting fest, starting April 3 at Patiala, 70 km from here, will see the teams and players vying for top honours and Rs.one crore (Rs.10 million) in prize money.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal Wednesday reviewed arrangements for the event with officials from sports and other departments here.
"The basic purpose behind organising the Kabaddi World Cup in Punjab is to attract Punjabi youth towards this traditional game of Punjab," Badal said here.
He said that nine teams from Britain, the US, Canada, Pakistan, Iran, Australia, Italy, Spain and host country India had already sent their consent to participate in this tournament.
The opening match of the tournament will be held in Patiala while the closing ceremony will be held April 15 in Ludhiana.
The remaining matches would be played in Patiala (April 3-4), Sangrur (April 5), Muktsar (April 7), Bathinda (April 8), Amritsar (April 10), Hoshiarpur (April 11 ) and Jalandhar (April 12).
The first and second runners-up will get Rs.51 lakh and Rs.25 lakh respectively.
Punjab government officials said that arrangements were being made for the worldwide live coverage of all the Kabaddi matches.
