Trailing at the half-way mark, Rohan Rewale of Dahisar initiated a spectacular late burst to snatch the boys under-18 200m gold from formidable arch-rival Gaurang Ambre of Thane with a new meet record, in the 36th Bombay YMCA State Level Annual Athletic Meet at the University Stadium, yesterday.
Ambre, of Seven Stars Sports Academy, Thane, was the biggest threat in the race but Rewale, of VPM Sports Club, Dahisar chose to believe in himself and accelerated to pip Ambre at the tape and avenge defeat with a brilliant time of 23.1 seconds that eclipsed the 16-year-old mark of 23.9 set by Srinivas Gadewar of Dominic Savio Sports Club in 1995 and equalled last year by Anthony Coutinho of Dayanit Athletes.
