India's Saina Nehwal crashed out of the women's singles second round of the Denmark Open badminton with a 19-21, 13-21 loss to Tzu Ying Tai of Chinese Taipei at Odense yesterday.
It took 36 minutes for Tzu to close the match. Saina was slow to start and lagged behind as Tai opened up a narrow 3-1 lead and extended it to 15-6. The Indian caught up with the Chinese Taipei player at 18-18 but Tai was unfazed as she sealed the first game.
The second one was a more intense battle as Saina and Tai were involved in a fierce battle till 10-10. But once again Tai surged ahead to eventually have the last laugh.
However, the Indian pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju entered the mixed doubles quarter-finals with a 21-16, 21-19 victory over the English combine of Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier.
Saina has won only one title -- Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold -- this year and finished runner-up at Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold and Indonesia Super Series.
