This, at a time when some of the country’s leading sportspersons like London Olympics bronze-winning wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, legendary distance-runner Milkha Singh and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir among others have slammed the Indian Olympic Association for associating the actor with Olympic sportspersons. Some called for leading names in Indian sport like PT Usha or Abhinav Bindra to be named instead of Salman.

Saina yesterday took to Twitter to show her support fro Salman.  “Perfect brand ambassador of Indian contingent for Rio Olympics .Good to see him encouraging sports @BeingSalmanKhan”, she tweeted.

Meanwhile, former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia also backed Salman’s appointment yesterday. “Bollywood sells in India.  Sport needs Bollywood and I don’t see anything wrong if Salman Khan promotes Olympic sports in the country,” Bhutia said in Kolkata yesterday.
