The Serb world number two has forsaken pasta, pizza and bread after becoming allergic to gluten.

But he does not intend to divulge the secrets that have helped him to within five wins of equalling John McEnroe's 1984 record of 42 wins at the start of a season and brought him seven titles since the turn of the year.

"I can't describe what I'm having in detail because this is something very private and professional, so I cannot talk about that," said Djokovic.

"What I can say is that I have decided to give it a try because of the allergies and the health problems that I had in the past.

I was trying different kind of things, and I wanted to see if it works, and that worked."

Djokovic believes that the help he has received from nutritionist Igor Cetojevic has helped improve his fitness and movement, a combination which has seen him installed as favourite to depose Paris defending champion Rafael Nadal.

"It's part of the puzzle," said Djokovic of his wonder diet. "It's not the most important thing that happened to me. But I have a big group of people around me at least four people who are travelling full time dedicating themselves to my career."

Djokovic has never got beyond the semi-finals at the French Open, but he has been the dominant force on clay this year, defeating Nadal in the finals of Madrid and Rome.

He has also shrugged off fears that exhaustion may jeopardise his hopes of adding the French Open to his Australian Open title.

"The good thing is we are playing every second day, so you will have a little gap there," said Djokovic, who came within two points of defeat to Andy Murray in the Rome semi-finals when he looked distinctly battled-scarred. "I have no major issues health wise. Physically I'm fit."
