Sports scribe Chandrasekhar Sant no more

Veteran sports scribe and president of the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai (SJAM), Chandrasekhar P Sant passed away around noon at his Mulund residence yesterday following a massive heart attack

Veteran sports scribe and president of the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai (SJAM), Chandrasekhar P Sant (above), passed away around noon at his Mulund residence yesterday following a massive heart attack. He was 61 and is survived by his wife and two sons.

According to his sister, Sant had complained of severe chest pain and was rushed to a doctor, who prescribed some medication. He returned home but later suffered a massive cardiac arrest and died.


Sant, a former sports editor of Maharashtra Times, was a long-serving treasurer of the Sports Journalists Federation of India and among the few Indian sports scribes who witnessed Kapil Dev's team winning the 1983 World Cup in England.


He covered several top sports events as a print journalist, was a respected Marathi columnist and Marathi commentator associated with All India Radio and Doordarshan.
