Table Tennis: Soumyajit, Harmeet in 2nd round of Philippines Open

India's top paddlers Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai entered the second round of the ITTF World Tour Philippines Open Table Tennis Championship

Subic Bay (Philippines): India's top paddlers Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai entered the second round of the ITTF World Tour Philippines Open Table Tennis Championship in Philippines on Saturday.

Soumyajit had an easy match as he blanked Yuki Matsuyama of Japan in straight games 11-9 11-7 11-7 11-6 to win 4-0.

Harmeet, who qualified for the main round, also beat a Japanese oppnent Ryotaro Ogato 13-11 13-11 11-8 4-11 9-11 11-4 in a hard-fought contest.

Earlier, in the qualifiers, Harmeet defeated Glendo Nayre of Philippines and NG Pak Nam of Hong Kong, to make it to the main round of the men's singles event.
