Trainer Shroff's winning run continues as four of his horses emerge fastest in SUnday's races

Trainer Pesi Shroff is on a roll. After Thursday's record-breaking feat of six winners on the card, the ace trainer led in four more yesterday at Mahalaxmi to take his tally to double digits. With only three days of racing, the Shroff has logged up 11 victory points, stealing a march over his rivals, the nearest being Cooji Katrak (4 points).

The battle for championship between these two astute Parsi trainers is, understandably, becoming a hot topic of debate among their ardent followers, and is bound to be followed closely by the western India racing fraternity.

Like Shroff, even the foreign jockeys continued their domination of Mahalaxmi racing, winning eight of the ten races slated yesterday. Two of them, Paul Mulrennan and C D Hayes, notched up braces, while James Doyle, M Fenton, David Allan and NG McCullagh won a race each. The four winners that Mulrennan and Hayes shared among them were all trained by Pesi Shroff.

The followers of money had a more-than-fair exchange with bookmakers as six of the ten races were won by piping hot on-money favourites, while three of the remaining four races went to strongly fancied second favourites, with only one race being won by a long shotBlue Danube.

The most impressive performance of the day was registered by the Shroff-trained Cabriolet (Paul Mulrennan up), owned by the Dhunjibhoys and F Rattonsey, who set a new course record for the seven-furlong trip by stopping the clock at 1 minute 22.52 seconds.
