New York: World number three Andy Murray advanced to the second round of the US Open after he overcame controversial Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios at the Flushing Meadows in New York on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old claimed 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win over Kyrgios in the first-round match.
The British champion will face Adrian Mannarino of France in the second round, the Guardian reported.
Meanwhile, Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka also advanced to the next round by beating Albert Ramos 7-5,6-4,7-6(8-6).
In women's singles, Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka overcame opponent Lucie Hradecka 6-1,6-2 to advance to the next round.
