Mumbai: Goa's Akansha Salunkhe, not seeded in the competition, capped an excellent run by clinching the under 19 girls' title when she upset second seed Aishwrya Bhattacharya of Maharashtra in the final of the All India NSCI Junior Open Squash tournament here on Thursday.

Akansha, who shocked top seed Vruddhi Doshi of Madhya Pradesh in the semis yesterday, continued in the same vein after dropping the opening game against Aishwarya to run out 10-12, 11-9, 11-5, 11-6 winner in 28 minutes. She hit 32 winners to compensate for 16 errors on her way to the girls' crown and the top prize of Rs 30,000.


The corresponding boys' crown was grabbed by Uttar Pradesh's Ranjit Singh who stopped the run of Krish Kapur of Bengal, with a 13-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-4 victory in the final between two unseeded players. Ranjit, who won Rs 60,000, had toppled second seed Aishwary Singh of Maharashtra while Kapur upset top seed Yohan Darius Pandole in yesterday's semis.
